Goodbye Mr. Jackson

Goodbye Mr. Jackson

The death of one of my favorite musicians, Michael Jackson, has made me slightly obsessed about what happened to him. The hours following his death, I made a break for the web and basically sat in front of my PC for hours, while CNN played on the TV. Not since 9/11, had I been so engrossed with the media. I know I shouldn't spend my time trying to read everything I can get my man-hands on. Its just hard not to.

While my mom cried endlessly, she remembered seeing Jackson, when he was with the Jackson 5, in concert as a young girl. She is so fond of the memory and feels blessed to have been apart of it.

I remember my siblings and I dancing and singing "shaoooohh" or "shamon.'" We were fans of the music, fans of his movement.

As time went on, we all witnessed Jackson's dark-skinned appearance turn purposely white, he was fodder for comedians around the world. Oddly, Jackson never clarified why his skin looked the way it did. Yet he sang about it not mattering if you were "black or white." After seeing Jackson's children, we wonder are they "black or white?"The only time he defended himself was when the child molestation charges where brought against him. Otherwise, the singer never really addressed the rumors written. Naturally, we all pegged Jackson guilty. This was a man who surrounded himself with children, had a home built around the theme "Neverland" and had sleepovers with kids; this didn't exactly dispel innocence.

The media has a tendency to create and spin stories, getting information from any and everyone that was involved with the singer and now post mortem, Jackson has to watch the private life he tried so hard to keep private become a grocery store of limitless stories.

I'm such a believer in God Almighty that I know he is the final judge. He laughs at our feeble attempts to justify and control a world that is not meant for us to control. Where we see fault, he sees wonder. I know Jackson is his wonder.

He will never rest in peace here on earth, that I do know. We will forever pick apart his life. We will speculate and wait for his children to talk. But in the loving arms of God, it is there he will rest for eternity.
